| At the age of 22, on November 9, 1985 Garry became the youngest ever World Chess Champion when he beat Anatoli KARPOV. He did concede his title in 2000 in the match lost against Vladimir KRAMNIK, but will remain until 2005, when he retired, the undisputed world number 1 (still holding in 2010, the world record for the highest elo rating [ 2851]).
